Colors

Learning colors allows students to practice what they’ve already been introduced to (clothing vocabulary, this, that ) in a new context.

In the Teacher’s Manual, there are also templates for Color Cards to practice the colors themselves and Color Picture Cards to offer more opportunities for practice.

Many additional reproducible materials are available only in this Manual. There are also page by page explanations of ways to introduce Student Workbook lessons and other detailed teaching suggestions.

Scrambled Sentences

This activity reinforces word order. There are templates for two sets of five different sentences each, appropriate for use at different points in the term.

The teacher duplicates several sets of each sentence and cuts them up and distributes them to pairs or groups of students. They spread out all the cards, including the punctuation cards, and decide on their order.

When students are all satisfied, they copy the completed sentence onto a sheet of paper, noting the number of the sentence.

Scrambled Sentences ExerciseThen they mix the sentence up again and trade it in for a different one. If they get stumped, they ask the teacher for some guidance. When at least one group of students has finished all 5, they put the sentences on the board and the class decides if they need correction.

Number Pair Dictation

Understanding and pronouncing English numbers can be quite challenging. Students appreciate having plenty of practice in a non-stressful setting.

Students are in pairs facing each other. One student dictates numbers from a card; the other listens and writes. Then the second student dictates new numbers and the first writes. There are 12 different sessions of increasing difficulty, including money, dates, addresses, and large numbers.

There are also templates for two spelling pair dictation sessions and one personal information session included in the Teacher’s Manual.
